In July I had the privilege to share and participate at the Meziprostor festival in Czech Republic I enjoy going to festivals such as these as I get to connect with Jesus followers and those who don’t follow Jesus but have an interest in Jesus, in the wider subculture family and listen to others and hear what is happening in their part of the world and bring encouragement as well.
My time in Czech Republic was memorable in many ways. When I first arrived in Prague, I found myself hanging out with Dave Andrews, a well known Christian community activist in Australia, and his wife Ange. We instantly hit off as it became a divine encounter as we shared stories with one another with the streets of Prague as our backdrop as well as in the car as we drove to the festival. It was a real encouragement to be around these lovely people for the weekend.
At the festival, I led a seminar exploring what it means to live without borders and to love our neighbours as we love ourselves and what it looks like in practical ways. I was also asked to lead morning devotion as well. For the devotion, I focused on Jesus words found in John 13.35 where he says how the world will know that we are followers by our love for one another, and not by titles such as ‘Christian’ we might carry. On the last full day of the festival, I was asked to participate in a panel discussion on Christian anarchy with Dave Andrews as well as my dear friend Jumper and others who I got to know over the last few days. I also had the privilege to participate and help lead an ecumenical mass at the close of the festival which was coordinated by a guy called Ladislav who has become an influential person in the underground movement in Czech Republic.
After Meziprostor, I was back in Prague for a few hours and was invited to preach at a lovely church service at TaCesta before being whizzed off to the airport for my flight back to London. While waiting for my flight, I could not help but think about the many wonderful experiences I had and all the amazing people and new friends I have met during my short stay in Czech Republic. I can’t wait to come back and visit.
